What is Cabinet Refacing?

Are your kitchen or bathroom cabinets in need of a boost? You may want to consider cabinet refacing. Cabinet refacing provides a cost effective alternative to replacing your cabinets outright. Generally, refacing costs twenty-five to fifty-percent less than cabinet replacement. You may be wondering how this is possible. In most cases, even the most aesthetically daunting cabinets are structurally fine. Thus, instead of replacing the cabinets outright, the cabinet doors and drawer fronts are replaced and a new veneer is applied to all externally visible cabinet parts.

The process is quite simple and the end result is a beautifully revamped and updated room!

  • Prep Work: First, all of the old cabinet doors and drawer headers are removed. At this point, homeowners may decide to either reuse or replace their drawer boxes.
  • Veneering: Once the old doors and drawer headers are gone, the cabinet surfaces are prepared for veneers.
  • Trim: After the veneering is completed, crown moldings are added along the tops of wall cabinets, while smaller moldings bring a finished look to the lower edges. A matching toe kick completes the trim work.
  • Doors & Headers: New hardwood doors and drawer headers are put back on and knobs, pulls, and other hardware are also replaced.

And just like that, your cabinet reface is completed!  Not only is cabinet refacing a cost effective alternative to cabinet replacement, it also allows you to keep your existing countertops while still transforming your home.  Speaking of transformation, a cabinet refacing project is a great time to add storage or organizational detailing to your room.  Check out our custom features options to learn more ways that you can personalize your space while your reface is underway!  Ready to get started?  Contact us today for a cabinet renovation!
