Should You Remodel Your Kitchen During a Pandemic?

Although the world is different right now, the home building and remodeling industries have remained steady throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, some homeowners may be wondering whether or not they should go through with a kitchen remodel during a pandemic. It all comes down to your comfort level. However, there are some advantages to remodeling right now, we’ve listed a few below to consider.

More Time to Plan

You may have already had a remodeling plan in the works, but for many, the idea to update their kitchen was born from spending more time at home. Either way, remodeling during the pandemic has afforded many homeowners more time. If you were planning before coronavirus hit, take some time to evaluate your blueprints and cost breakdown. Does the project still fit your budget? Where can you save?

If it’s the latter, use the time to your advantage! Put together a mood board on Pinterest to see what styles you’re drawn to or browse projects on Houzz. When you’re ready, reach out to a designer for insight into what would work best with your kitchen’s existing layout. It might also be smart to shop around for any current deals or discounts on appliances or finishes.

Low Interest Rates

Interest rates are relatively low, making it an ideal time to purchase a new home. If you’ve had your eye on a fixer-upper, now might be the right time to make your move. Saving on interest rates gives you more spending power when it comes to tackling home projects. On the flip side, it’s still an excellent opportunity to remodel your existing kitchen, since home improvement loan rates are also low.

Take Advantage of Sales and Discounts

It’s no secret that remodeling a home can be expensive. Even small projects can add up fast! Taking advantage of discounts and sales can make a project more affordable, and leave room in the budget for a splurge or two. We suggest visiting local retailers online, or in-person if you’re comfortable with it, you never know what kind of deals you may find!

Contractors Have More Openings

While Minnesota’s stay at home order has been adjusted and more industries are moving forward, a lot of people are still playing it safe. Although builders and remodelers were categorized as essential, some homeowners are (understandably) hesitant to allow crews into their homes. This means that those who choose to remodel have the advantage of more open contractor schedules. Better yet, some may even be willing to offset dips in business with a discount on your project!
